Greetings from Kazakhstan

I'm another absent-wish-I-were-there, but I can't complain about my current circumstances. I'm a trainer at a week-long workshop on using online community for community needs here in Almaty, Kazakhstan. We have an amazing group of 20 from across the country and we are winding down at nearly 9pm on day one. I actually plan to show them this typepad site tomorrow when we talk about tools - particularly free and low cost tools.

We will be walking the talk about some of the issues I offered in the draft paper i submitted. It is obvious I never got around to a final copy. Life has been busy, and testement to how useful NGOs are finding online communication, online groups and the infamous "online community."

If you have any questions for us here in Almaty, post them and we'll look for them tomorrow or the next day. And as I can log in, I'll try and follow your actions. I figure you are getting to the end of your day now too there in London. Wish I were there wish you. '

Hi Nancy, and if I'm not too late, your colleagues

It's good to hear from you, and a pity that you're otherwise (but clearly productively!) occupied. I think David is preparing some videos and photos of the workshop as well, which will give you a 'feel' for how it went here. Ann's article gives a good feel for what happened here.

I hope your workshop's going well,

Steve

Well, we are wrapping up here in KZ and I sense many of the issues we have discussed are directly relevant to your work. We are in the midst of struturing a multi-NGO collaborative network for using online tools for specific local needs around education policy, reform and pedagogy. The range of sophistication varies, but the energy is uniformly high and passionate. It is nearly 6pm and people work in the lab afterevening sessions till the wee hours of the am and still that passionate debate continues. More later
